In our poll on Tuesday, we asked Manchester City fans whether they thought manager Pep Guardiola should be resting players ahead of tonight’s visit to the Emirates to face Arsenal.

Kompany is still struggling for full match-fitness, having recently been phased back into the team following a month-long absence with a wound injury, but his importance to City as both their on the pitch and spiritual leader was underlined by his brilliant performance on Sunday.

As the Citizens walked all over Arsenal at Wembley in the League Cup final, Kompany scored a goal and kept a clean sheet and it will be difficult to keep him out of the lineup for tonight’s rematch against the Gunners.

John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have consistently been Guardiola’s rocks at the centre of the defence this season with the 72-cap Belgian star down with injury, and the majority of Manchester City fans were confident that they could continue to fill the void while Kompany gets back to full fitness.
