According to reports in the Daily Mail, West Ham United are now leading Newcastle United in the race to sign Leicester City striker Islam Slimani before the January transfer window slams shut on Wednesday night, and Magpies fans have been quick to have their say on the development.
The Tyneside outfit have been linked with the Algeria international throughout the month, but now the Daily Mail says that the Irons have held talks over a move for the 29-year-old.
However, while both they and the Tyneside outfit would prefer a loan deal, the report adds that the Foxes are only keen to let the Algeria international join a Premier League rival on a permanent basis.
The duo will now have to come up with a lucrative financial package to convince Leicester to let the centre-forward go on a temporary basis until the end of the season.
Newcastle supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on the story, and while one said “this could very well be our worst window under Ashley”, another said ‘Lee Charnley needs to be fired’.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
