Wolves were unable to distance themselves from the Premier League relegation fight on Wednesday evening as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.
After holding out for more than 70 minutes against Jurgen Klopp’s side, Virgil van Dijk delivered a killer blow late on to hand the hosts the lead before Mohamed Salah put the game to bed just a few minutes later.
While there were signs of promise from Julen Lopetegui’s side, with the Spaniard certainly deserving credit for the way he has turned things around at the Midlands club, it was another game without finding the net for Wolves.
How did Pablo Sarabia play vs Liverpool?
With Wolves’ striking options continuously letting the side down in front of goal, with Raul Jimenez once again failing to fire at Anfield, the impetus has been on the Old Gold’s wingers and midfielders to provide.
Last Friday saw January signing Pablo Sarabia notch his first goal for the club in the 1-1 draw against Fulham, but he certainly couldn’t follow that up at Anfield.
The former PSG man was truly anonymous in the first half and was consequently ruthlessly ditched at half-time by Lopetegui, with the Spain international missing Wolves’ best chance of the game, which accumulated 0.71 xG but also saw him miss the target with his effort.
As per Sofascore, the 30-year-old would earn a shocking 6.1/10 rating for his display, which was comfortably the worst of any player from both sides to feature in the game.
Despite registering just 20 touches of the ball in the first half, which was 30 fewer than goalkeeper Jose Sa would manage in the 90 minutes, Sarabia still managed to lose the ball on six occasions and lost 60% of his duels, which suggests that Liverpool’s defence was well on top.
The experienced winger would manage just eight passes in the entire game, which was a significant decrease on the 25.7 he has averaged in the top flight so far this season, which emphasises just how little he was involved.
Sarabia also failed with his one dribble attempt and picked up a yellow card to compound an awful display from the wide man.
He will certainly have to involve himself a lot more in Wolves’ upcoming fixtures, if the Old Gold are to amend their woes in front of goal and distance themselves from the relegation battle this season.
