da pinup bet: Gio Reyna failed to step up to the moment on the international stage as the U.S. were embarrassed on home soil
da fezbet: The USMNT's talismanic presence was nowhere to be found, and its defensive nous went missing, as the Copa America hosts were handily beaten by a clinical Colombia side.
An all-European based US side looked promising in stretches, but lacked the necessary quality in the final third – and was often lackadaisical at the back in a 5-1 defeat. Gio Reyna was notable in his absence, the Dortmund midfielder handed a start, but proving immensely ineffective.
Colombia took an early lead, Fluminense midfielder Jhon Arias seizing onto a kind rebound before smashing home at the near post. The USMNT almost responded immediately, but Folarin Balogun's angled shot was diverted off the line. The visitors added a second inside 20 minutes, Rafael Borre's acrobatic bicycle kick squirming past Matt Turner. It marked the first time since 1995 that the US conceded two in 20 minutes.
Berhalter's side worked their way back into the game after the break. Weah grabbed their first goal, a neat finish across the goalkeeper after a well-worked move. And there were half chances for them to grab a second. But a series of defensive mistakes saw Berhalter's men collapse on home soil in a one-sided loss.
GOAL rates the USMNT's players from FedExField…
Geoff BurkeGoalkeeper & Defense
Matt Turner (5/10):
Hard to criticize him for any of the goals. He was let down by his defense.
Joe Scally (6/10):
Given a chance to prove that he can start with Sergino Dest out. Did well enough defensively against Luis Diaz, but didn't offer much going forward.
Chris Richards (5/10):
Good on the right side of the center back pairing, but dismal on the left.
Tim Ream (6/10):
A solid showing at the back. Made a couple of key interventions, but could have reacted slightly quicker for the Colombia opener.
Antonee Robinson (6/10):
Showed some real attacking intent. His unlucky deflection handed the visitors an opening goal. Should have gotten tighter on the fifth goal.

Johnny Cardoso (7/10):
Given a chance to impress with Tyler Adams injured and Yunus Musah omitted. Looked good as a No.6, even if it likely won't be enough to get him in the XI from the start this summer.
Weston McKennie (6/10):
Asked to play in a more advanced role, which really didn't seem to suit him.
Gio Reyna (5/10):
Spent the early part of the first half looking like he didn't care. Dangerous in dead ball situations, but really didn't get involved enough. Disappointing from an immense talent.

Tim Weah (6/10):
Hardly touched the ball before he took his goal well. Not involved much after.
Folarin Balogun (6/10):
Had a shot cleared off the line. Didn't get much service, otherwise.
Christian Pulisic (7/10):
Enjoyed some nice one-on-one moments early. Linked up well with Robinson. Subbed at the break.

Haji Wright (7/10):
Looked dangerous after coming on, but not always crisp on the wing. Unclear what his best position is.
Cameron Carter-Vickers (4/10):
Composed at the back, and pacier than Ream. Ruined it all with some woeful giveaways.
Malik Tillman (6/10):
Offered a much-needed injection of energy in the middle.
Yunus Musah (6/10):
Composed on the ball, and found a few dangerous passes, too. Surely starts at full fitness.
Ricardo Pepi (N/A):
No time to make an impact.
Luca de la Torre (N/A):
No time to make an impact.
Gregg Berhalter (5/10):
Went with an expansive XI, and his side were good for long stretches – but let down by some truly woeful defending. He will be furious with some of the mistakes.
